Library Assistant I

Welcome to the City of San Diego's Library Assistant I position! As a Library Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting the daily operations of our libraries and providing excellent customer service to our community. We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic individual who is passionate about promoting literacy and providing access to knowledge and resources. If you have a love for books, a strong attention to detail, and exceptional communication skills, we invite you to join our team and make a positive impact on the lives of our patrons. Assist with the daily operations of the library, including shelving and organizing materials, checking in and out books, and helping patrons locate items. Provide excellent customer service to all library patrons, including answering questions, providing recommendations, and resolving any issues or concerns. Assist with maintaining the library's collection by processing new materials, cataloging items, and ensuring proper placement on shelves. Help promote literacy and a love for reading by assisting with library programs and events, such as story times and book clubs. Maintain a clean and organized library environment, including keeping shelves tidy and materials in their designated locations. Monitor and enforce library policies and procedures to ensure a safe and welcoming environment for all patrons. Assist with technology needs, such as troubleshooting computers and printers, and providing basic computer assistance to library patrons. Keep accurate records of library materials, including inventory and circulation statistics. Stay up-to-date on library policies, procedures, and services in order to effectively assist patrons and answer any questions. Collaborate with other library staff and departments to ensure the smooth operation of the library and provide a cohesive experience for patrons.
