Temporary Science Outreach Illustrator

The Temporary Scientific Outreach Outreach Illustrator will assist with the development of a public-facing scientific outreach booklet focused on hibernation research. This position is ideal for someone interested in science communication, biology, neuroscience, physiology, or biomedical research, and who enjoys translating complex scientific concepts into engaging and accessible content for broad audiences. This position will work up to 7hrs per week for approximately 6 weeks. Responsibilities include:

  • Research and synthesize scientific literature related to hibernation biology, physiology, metabolism, skeletal muscle preservation, and related biomedical applications
  • Write clear, engaging, and scientifically accurate content for a general audience
  • Assist in organizing and developing booklet structure, themes, and educational messaging
  • Create or coordinate visuals, figures, captions, and infographics to support scientific content
  • Work closely with faculty and research team members to revise and refine materials
  • Ensure consistency in tone, formatting, and scientific accuracy throughout the booklet
  • Assist with outreach-oriented storytelling that highlights the broader significance of hibernation research, including applications to human health and spaceflight

This position is a remote position. All positions may require on campus meetings. Remote work is only considered for residents of MA, VT, NH, ME, CT, RI, or NY.

Minimum Qualifications

Recent graduate or graduating senior in biology, neuroscience, physiology, science communication, or a related field Strong writing and editing skills Ability to communicate scientific concepts to non-specialist audiences Experience with literature review and scientific reading Strong organizational skills and attention to detail Interest in science outreach, education, or biomedical research Familiarity with graphic design platforms (e.g., Canva, Adobe Illustrator, BioRender) is a plus

Preferred Qualifications
