• Position Overview
• We are seeking an experienced Sports Writer to cover local athletics and bring engaging, accurate, and timely sports coverage to our readers. This is a fully remote position, ideal for a self-motivated writer who understands the importance of community journalism and can capture the spirit of small-town sports.
• Key Responsibilities
• Cover local sports teams, including high school, youth leagues, and community events
• Write game recaps, feature stories, athlete profiles, and seasonal previews
• Conduct interviews with coaches, athletes, and community members
• Meet regular deadlines for weekly or bi-weekly publication
• Submit clean, well-edited copy with minimal supervision
• Coordinate with editors remotely via email or shared platforms
• Qualifications
• Proven experience as a sports writer (newspaper, digital publication, or similar)
• Strong writing, grammar, and storytelling skills
• Ability to work independently and meet deadlines consistently
• Familiarity with AP style (preferred)
• Experience covering high school or small-town sports is a strong plus
• Reliable internet access and communication skills
