Key Responsibilities – What You’ll Do Every Day Specimen Management: Receive, log, and verify patient specimens with meticulous attention to detail; ensure proper labeling, storage, and tracking in compliance with HIPAA and OSHA standards. Pre‑Analytical Processing: Prepare specimens for analysis, including centrifugation, aliquoting, and reagent preparation; maintain a clean, organized workspace in your home lab environment. Analytical Testing: Perform routine qualitative and quantitative clinical laboratory tests (e.g., chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology) using both automated and manual methods; follow manufacturer protocols and DMCUL standard operating procedures. Quality Control & Calibration: Conduct daily QC checks, calibrate equipment, and document performance metrics; troubleshoot instrument alerts and liaise with the central lab support team for resolution. Result Verification & Reporting: Analyze test outcomes, verify accuracy against reference ranges, and promptly enter results into the Laboratory Information System (LIS); communicate critical values to ordering physicians following established escalation pathways. Documentation & Record‑Keeping: Maintain comprehensive electronic logs of all activities, from specimen receipt to final report, ensuring traceability and audit readiness. Safety & Compliance: Adhere strictly to OSHA, CLIA, and DMCUL safety policies; wear appropriate PPE, manage biohazardous waste, and participate in quarterly safety drills. Essential Qualifications – What You Must Bring Education: Associate’s degree (or higher) from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technician program, covering core subjects such as clinical chemistry, hematology, microbiology, and transfusion medicine. Certification: Eligibility for, or possession of, a valid Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), National Credentialing Agency for Laboratory Personnel (NCA), or an equivalent certifying body.
