The Data Engineer will design, build, and maintain secure data pipelines and infrastructure to support healthcare analytics and product platforms, ensuring compliance with healthcare data standards.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement robust data pipelines to ingest, transform, and deliver healthcare data from multiple sources, including EHRs, claims systems, labs, and registries
• Develop and maintain data models and warehouses that support analytics, reporting, and real-world evidence generation
• Ensure compliance with HIPAA, HITECH, and other healthcare data privacy and security standards
• Work with product managers, architects, and data scientists to translate business and clinical requirements into technical specifications
• Implement best practices for data quality, lineage, and governance across all data assets
• Develop and optimize SQL queries, stored procedures, and ETL/ELT workflows using tools such as Snowflake, dbt, and modern cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or GCP)
• Participate in peer code and design reviews to ensure accuracy, scalability, and maintainability
• Troubleshoot complex data issues, conduct root cause analyses, and implement long-term solutions
• Serve as a technical subject matter expert for healthcare data engineering and integration
• Support internal and external stakeholders by addressing data-related inquiries and production issues

Skills

• Minimum 3 years of experience in data or software engineering
• Strong SQL development experience, including stored procedures and performance optimization
• Hands-on experience with Snowflake, dbt, and cloud-based data technologies
• Solid understanding of ETL/ELT processes, data warehousing, and data modeling concepts
• Working knowledge of healthcare data standards and formats (HL7, FHIR, X12, CCD, etc.)
• Familiarity with healthcare data types (clinical data, claims, pharmacy, lab, and patient registries)
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field—or equivalent professional experience
• Proficiency in one or more modern programming languages (SQL preferred; Python or Java a plus)
• Experience working in agile development environments (Scrum, Kanban)
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
• Experience with data orchestration tools (e.g., Mage Ai (a plus), Airflow, Prefect)
• Exposure to healthcare analytics, population health management, or real-world evidence generation
• Advanced degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, or a related field
• Familiarity with healthcare interoperability frameworks and APIs
