[Remote] Associate Web Developer

Remote · Switzerland Full-time

Note: The job is a remote job and is open to candidates in USA. BAGGU is a design-focused bag company based in San Francisco, California, seeking a full-time Associate Web Developer to join their Engineering team. The role involves collaborating with designers and the E-Commerce team to develop responsive web components, improve workflows, and enhance the overall user experience on their website.

Responsibilities

  • Feature development: Build and maintain responsive, accessible, reusable web components for the BAGGU web stores, ensuring that the components match the Creative team’s designs and support the E-Commerce team’s workflows
  • Documentation, education, and communication: Communicate limitations, alternatives, and workarounds of our codebase and of the web generally to non-engineers on our Creative and E-Commerce teams, to collaboratively represent our brand on the web in the best light. Document usage of components for non-technical users to build a shared understanding of what content editor changes our website supports and can support in the future
  • Quality control and continuous improvement: In collaboration with other BAGGU engineers, triage and resolve daily bug reports, gradually making larger fixes while contributing meaningful improvements to the codebase. Maintain and update vendor integrations for the libraries and services that power our website. Take on new projects, refactoring, extending, and improving our codebase to make our web development more robust, efficient, and scalable

Skills

  • 1+ years of experience in frontend web development, preferably in e-commerce
  • Proficiency with development tools and platforms such as GitHub, npm, and node.js
  • Strong researching skills and an ability to problem solve - the self-led ability to identify opportunities in a codebase and implement new solutions
  • Experience working with existing codebases and other developers, whether open source or commercial - self-driven ability to explore a codebase and identify or debug existing code paths
  • Good, proactive communication skills - regularly communicating with colleagues about project status, blocking issues, or open questions
  • Comfort with technical and non-technical audiences - being able to communicate in a technically detailed way when needed but also able to communicate project limitations and updates to non-technical users
  • Exceptional attention to detail - must be able to see projects through to completion, ensuring accurate implementation of visual details such as spacing, padding, and alignment, performing quality checks throughout development until a project is complete
  • Desire to learn - as we modernize our codebase, candidates should be comfortable learning new platforms, flexible as tools change, and able to take initiative in suggesting new directions for our code
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively - This is especially important as we are a remote organization! Candidates should be skilled in managing their time as well as balancing synchronous and asynchronous communication. Knowing when to ask for help is a strength!
  • Technical familiarity with libraries, frameworks, and tools. Some examples, with our stack and tools in bold:
  • Framework-driven React development [Next.js, Remix/Hydrogen, TanStack]
  • Javascript Ecommerce APIs [Shopify Storefront API, Swell, BigCommerce, Adobe Commerce, Salesforce Commerce Cloud]
  • Familiarity with serverless hosting [Vercel, Netlify, Cloudflare, AWS]
  • Content management systems [Sanity, Contentful, Jamstack, Strapi]
  • Creative design tools [Figma, Photoshop]
  • Experience using analytics platforms and frameworks
  • Knowledge of A/B testing at multiple levels - within code, in a CMS or framework, and for data-driven campaigns
  • A love of reusable bags!

  • Optional: FSA/HSA and commuter benefits
  • Time Off: 16 days PTO + 11 company holidays
