Job Description: Eating Disorder Dietitian California Virtual Eating Disorder Experts IOP Position Title: Eating Disorder Dietitian Program: California Virtual Eating Disorder Experts IOP Location: Fully Remote / Telehealth Reports To: Chief of Nutrition & Program Operations and/or Program Director Position Type: Full Time, Part-Time or Contract, with potential for growthPosition Summary California Virtual Eating Disorder Experts IOP is seeking an experienced, compassionate, and recovery-oriented Eating Disorder Dietitian to provide nutrition care within a fully virtual intensive outpatient eating disorder treatment program. The Eating Disorder Dietitian is responsible for completing nutrition assessments, developing individualized meal plans, supporting clients in meal plan implementation, facilitating nutrition-related groups, collaborating with the multidisciplinary treatment team, and documenting services in accordance with program, insurance, and accreditation standards. This role is ideal for a dietitian who is confident working with eating disorders, understands the complexity of virtual care, and is able to provide structured, non-shaming, trauma-informed nutrition support to adolescents and/or adults in recovery.Key Responsibilities The Eating Disorder Dietitian will:

  • Complete initial nutrition assessments and ongoing reassessments for assigned clients.
  • Develop individualized nutrition interventions, meal plans, and stepping-stone meal goals based on client needs, level of care, and treatment team recommendations.
  • Provide individual nutrition counseling sessions via telehealth.
  • Facilitate or support meal groups, nutrition groups, and recovery-focused food exposures as assigned.
  • Monitor nutrition adequacy, meal completion, restriction, binge/purge behaviors, food avoidance, body image distress, and barriers to nourishment.
  • Review Recovery Record or other food/mood logging tools to assess patterns and provide clinical feedback.
  • Collaborate closely with therapists, case managers, recovery coaches, medical providers, and leadership.
  • Participate in weekly treatment team meetings and provide concise client updates.
  • Communicate with outside providers as clinically appropriate and with proper releases of information.
  • Support clients in building flexible, sustainable, and recovery-aligned eating patterns.
  • Document all services in the EMR in a timely, clinically appropriate, audit-ready manner.
  • Escalate safety, medical, or behavioral concerns to the appropriate team members per program protocol.
  • Maintain professional boundaries and provide care within registered dietitian scope of practice.

Clinical Approach The dietitian is expected to provide care that is:

  • Weight-inclusive while still medically aware
  • Developmentally appropriate
  • Culturally responsive
  • Collaborative and team-based
  • Compassionate, structured, and non-shaming
  • Aligned with the client’s treatment plan and level of care

Required Qualifications

  • Registered Dietitian Nutritionist credential required.
  • Active licensure, if required by the state in which services are provided.
  • Experience treating eating disorders in outpatient, IOP, PHP, residential, or inpatient settings.
  • Strong understanding of eating disorder nutrition rehabilitation, meal planning, exposure work, and relapse prevention.
  • Comfortable providing telehealth services.
  • Ability to document clearly and professionally in an EMR.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
  • Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • CEDS or interest in pursuing CEDS preferred.
  • Experience with adolescents, young adults, and families.
  • Experience working in a higher level of care setting.
  • Familiarity with Recovery Record, Ritten, Google Workspace, and Zoom.
  • Experience leading meal support groups or nutrition process groups.
  • Knowledge of medical risk factors related to eating disorders, including malnutrition, purging, orthostasis, abnormal labs, and refeeding concerns.

  • Occasional family or care coordination sessions

Availability during program hours is required. Specific schedule will be determined based on program needs and caseload.Documentation Expectations The dietitian is responsible for completing timely, accurate, and clinically appropriate documentation, including:

  • Nutrition assessments
  • ADIME or other program-approved session notes
  • Recovery Record review notes
  • Meal support/group notes
  • Care coordination notes
  • Treatment plan updates as needed
  • Discharge or transition recommendations as assigned

Documentation must support medical necessity, client progress, treatment interventions, and ongoing level-of-care needs.Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is warm, grounded, clinically skilled, and comfortable balancing compassion with accountability. They understand that eating disorder recovery is not linear and can support clients with structure, flexibility, and patience. They are able to work independently while staying closely connected to the team and program protocols.
