Career Pathways Coordinator

Position Title: Career Pathways Coordinator Reports To: Director of Education Work Status: Part-Time, Temporary. Approximately 25 hours per week, with a flexible schedule that includes occasional evenings and weekends. FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Position Term: This is a grant-funded temporary position expected to continue through December 31, 2027. Continuation of employment is contingent upon funding and organizational needs. About the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy We improve quality of life by enhancing and stewarding Pittsburgh’s parks in partnership with the community. Through our educational initiatives, the Conservancy connects young people with nature while creating meaningful opportunities for learning, leadership development, and future career exploration. Position Summary The Career Pathways Coordinator supports the Pittsburgh Parks Conservancy’s efforts to connect youth and young adults with educational and career opportunities in environmental, conservation, and sustainability-related fields. This position develops and coordinates programs that introduce participants to in-demand green careers and connects them with pathways to higher education, training programs, internships, mentorships, and employment opportunities. Working closely with the Director of Education and Education staff, the Coordinator will strengthen and extend the Conservancy’s existing environmental learning pathway by building partnerships, supporting program alumni, and serving as a connector between participants and the professionals, organizations, and institutions that make up the region’s green economy. The Coordinator will also advance the Conservancy’s commitment to expanding access to environmental education and career opportunities for historically underrepresented youth and communities. This position combines office-based coordination with field-based engagement and requires regular interaction with youth participants, educators, employers, post-secondary institutions, researchers, and community partners. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Support the delivery of the Conservancy’s high school education programs: Young Naturalists (summer), Outside Voices and High School Urban Eco Stewards (school year).
  • Guide participants and program alumni in exploring educational and professional pathways related to environmental science, ecology, conservation, and sustainability.
  • Coordinate career exploration activities, guest speakers, workshops, networking opportunities, field experiences, and professional development opportunities
  • Connect participants with internships, fellowships, mentorships, training, educational

resources and employment opportunities that align with their interests and career goals.

  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and supportive environment for program participants.
  • Develop and maintain systems for tracking participant and alumni outcomes including educational attainment, job placement and other indicators of success.
  • Support ongoing communication and engagement with program alumni.
  • Identify opportunities for alumni to serve as mentors, volunteers, ambassadors, and guest speakers.
  • Research workforce trends and align efforts with regional, state, and national trends.
  • Build and maintain partnerships with

community organizations, employers, and educational institutions.

  • Collaborate with regional education institutions, environmental organizations

and workforce development partners to strengthen green career pathways for youth.

  • Assist with grant reporting, program evaluation and presentations as needed.

Desired Qualifications

  • Two or more years of relevant experience in youth development, environmental education, workforce development, career readiness, STEM or out-of-school-time learning.
  • Bachelor’s degree or some college coursework in a related field is a plus, but not required.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with youth and young adults from diverse backgrounds.
  • Knowledge and interest in environmental science, ecology, conservation, sustainability, renewable energy, green buildings, urban forestry, wildlife biology.
  • Experience building partnerships with non-profits, schools, colleges, universities, and employers.
  • Knowledge of environmental career pathways and post-secondary educational opportunities.
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and work both independently and collaboratively.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Outlook)

Physical and Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to occasionally lift and carry materials weighing up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends as program needs require.
  • Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
