Summary

The Department of Criminal Justice and Sociology at Charleston Southern University invites applications for an adjunct Criminal Justice/Law position starting August 1, 2026. to teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses related to criminal law, constitutional law, criminal procedure, ethics, and related legal topics. The successful candidate will bring both academic knowledge and practical legal experience to the classroom, helping prepare students for careers in criminal justice, law enforcement, corrections, legal studies, and related fields. This is a non-tenure-track, part-time teaching position for fall, spring and/or summer semesters. We encourage candidates who wish to teach online and/or in person in Charleston, South Carolina to apply.

Responsibilities

The adjunct instructor of Criminal Justice/Law will teach courses in the fall, spring and/or summer semesters as needed based on enrollment and expect to teach courses at all undergraduate levels both in-person or online and even at the online graduate level. This position carries no service or research requirements, and it is paid on a per-credit-hour basis. Application Process Candidates should complete the online application. Preference will be given to candidates who have demonstrated knowledge of criminal law and the U.S. legal system as a practicing attorney or former legal practitioner with a J.D. who can connect real-world experience to criminal justice education and student career preparation. Additionally, experience teaching college-level introductory courses in Criminal Law as well as specialized classes in Judicial Systems and Practices, Constitutional and Legal Issues for Law Enforcement, Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure is preferred.
