Accounting Officer/ Accountant Trainee

California Correctional Health Care Services is seeking an Accounting Officer/Accountant Trainee. This role involves performing various accounting duties, primarily focusing on employee payroll and warrant distribution, while ensuring compliance with audit and internal control procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Performing accounting duties of average difficulty
  • Responsible for reviewing, coordinating, reconciling, and maintaining accountability of employee payroll/warrant distribution and resolution of specific employee payroll issues
  • Review operations and make recommendations for revision and documentation of existing desk procedures
  • Act as departmental resources to provide assistance to department employees, personnel and general inquiries concerning payroll distribution, salary advance garnishments and escheated warrant issues
  • Recognize and ensure that audit, internal control, and accounting related payroll procedures are being followed
  • Responsible for processing returned items received from bank

  • Working knowledge of Word and Excel software; familiarity with Access and PowerPoint software, teams messaging, and Outlook email system
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative relationships
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing, to prepare written documents in a clear and concise manner
  • Ability to analyze situations and use good judgment
  • Individual should be dependable, motivated, reliable, and have a good attendance record
  • Have accounting related education and accounting experience
